Dr Joseph B. Kim
PhD, M.Ost, D.O, N.D

Dr Joseph is the first and currently the only Korean osteopath, trained and registered in the UK. At first, he was advised to study ‘osteopathic medicine’ by his mentor who was one of the top 5 ENT surgeons in the UK but receiving osteopathic treatment for the neck pain. He attended the osteopathic college’s open day in London to know what is ‘osteopathy’ and was thrilled by its excellent treatment approach. Osteopathic medicine was not aimed to reduce the symptoms of the patients but focused on an individual ‘patient or person’ with the symptoms to manage the causes of the symptoms. It was an perfect patient-centred system.

During his internship at the clinic and hospital in London, he was amazed to see the effectiveness of the osteopathic treatments not only on musculoskeletal pain but also on most of the internal diseases such as ear infection, asthma, migraine, poor digestion, depression, etc. Indeed, osteopathic treatments applied on the external body structures which was created to support the internal physiological function helped lots of medical conditions.

For example, all his baby patients having ear infection had a great benefit from his treatment without using antibiotics. The treatment for the infection was to improve lymphatic circulation for better immune reaction by reducing the tension in the neck (effect on cervical lymph chain) and temporal bone of the skull (effect on eustachian tube). Then, he discusssed with baby’s parents to know the possible causes of the mild tension in the neck or skull. Somtimes, mom’s breastfeeding posture was found to be one possible cause of the ear infection and mucus congestion in the ear.

TESTIMONIAL

" I was treated by Joseph Kim for back ache during my pregnancy and post pregnancy. He was very helpful and professional and sorted my back ache out completely. I can't recommend him enough."

" I sat down with Dr. Joseph Kim, the Osteopathic specialist, for a pretty in depth look and education on my bone and muscle structure. As one of the only outside-licensed and practicing Osteopathic doctors in Korea who specializes in pregnancy and post-partum care among other things, he is one of the most unique aspects about the center and definitely the person for me. Baby, I love you, but gosh my back aches. Not only is he clearly educated and knows what he’s talking about, but he was able to explain things in simple terms for me, which I’ve generally noticed a lack of among Korean doctors who spout out medical jargon like it’s their job, (yeah I know it is), but can’t simplify it for the common man or woman. Through a subtle technique of questions and light touch, Dr. Kim was able to determine some “problem” areas and gently coaxed my spine into a more comfortable position and followed that up with recommending some exercises and lifestyle choices to make to continue in order to maintain a healthy body. As he explained, everything is connected and while my trapezius muscles might be sore, that’s not necessarily where I need to focus to relieve the stress that’s in that location. I left feeling knowledgeable, energized and ready to make some slight adjustments in my daily life for a generally healthier outcome."
